Since I was a child, I watched Wikipedia grow from a widely mocked website where “anyone could edit” to a highly respected encyclopedia that far exceeds “the best” professional encyclopedias that the world has created.

We, the people, have created something extraordinary. No other project exists like this. Let’s hope that the next 25 years is as productive, consensus driven and informative as the last. Wikipedia was founded on a seemingly radical concept; that everyone should have as much knowledge made freely available to them as possible.

We are making great progress towards our goal but there’s still so much to be done. If you’re new, jump in! Find shorter articles and find reliable sources to bring material into the encyclopedia. Improve where you can, seek consensus and bring facts to everything you do here.

Time went quickly and it has accompanied us for a quarter of a century.

There is two types of “forget”, the first is because something dimmed and totally disappeared in the history, and the second is something totally entered our lives so that we cannot even notice its existence. Wikipedia belongs to the second.

It is hard to find such a website which stands for most of netizen’s mindset, holds an objective attitude to its topics all the time, allows so many people to do useful modifications to its original contents, and always presents with a clean, white interface without any advertisements—even google has google ads in his site. But wikipedia.org did all of this.

Over the years, Countless ordinary netizens who want to share their understandings of let along a single topic rushed to this site, open a page if it has not established, or just modify other’s existing content, then they conflicted, debated with others who may hold totally reversed mindset. In the end, the page will be a mixture and mirror of different cultures, countries, and personalities.

In the earliest time it is only provided in English, now it provides a lot of languages, from cantonese to those less-known. Though an AI translator can easily do that, but wikipedia doesn’t do that, even the content for a same topic in different languages is different.

How many people use it on earth? I am not sure, but I’m sure that when I enter an academic word to google and use its “I am feeling lucky”, it always redirects to its wikipedia page. I think that explains everything.

Things represent themselves as useful not through slogans and advertisements, but depends on their user’s love, its committed spirit and its tolerance to different voices.

That is what lies in the depths of this site, and that is the primary aims of the Internet.

Hope it can continue like this forever, give every user a simple, useful way to get knowledge.

Happy 25th anniversary to Wikipedia , a project that has shaped not only the world’s access to knowledge, but also my own life.
I began editing Wikipedia when I was just 12 years old. What started as curiosity quickly became a passion for sharing knowledge, improving articles, and contributing to something far bigger than myself. Over the years, Wikipedia has taught me the value of collaboration, neutrality, critical thinking, and respect for reliable sources.
Today, I continue to edit Wikipedia in multiple languages: English, Arabic, Simple English, Egyptian Arabic, and Moroccan Arabic. Being able to contribute across different languages and cultures has shown me firsthand how powerful Wikipedia is in bridging gaps and making knowledge accessible to everyone, everywhere.
Wikipedia is more than a website it is a global community built on trust, volunteerism, and the belief that free knowledge matters. I am proud to be part of that community and grateful to every editor, administrator, developer, and donor who has helped keep this project alive for 25 years.
